Safe Roads - Walkable Westport Task Force
Founded in 2022, the Safe Roads - Walkable Westport Task Force brings together community stakeholders to improve pedestrian and roadway challenges. On the heels of the Westport Chair Trail, “Slow with the Flow” and “Walkable Westport” public awareness campaigns and New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee audit and recommendations in 2024. Safe Roads recently organized its first National Walking Month full of community events, and a town-wide "Bingo" scavenger hunt, encouraging walkers of all ages to embark on a fun adventure in Westport.
In July 2025, we became the recipients of a $25,000 2025 AARP Community Challenge Grant, with funding provided by Toyota North America; several initiatives, such as increased signage, green scaping, public art, and infrastructure improvements, are currently in progress.
Safe Roads - Walkable Westport is a member of the Town's planning advisory committee for 2025-26 comprehensive plan development.
A more walkable Westport encourages residents to walk more often, creating a safer, greener, and healthier community.
